AI Replaced Creativity & Personality Tests?

AI
Creativity
Mindset

All my book covers are AI, my website was made using AI, and AI helped fix the grammar in this blog post.

There is no surprise that AI is now being used in every possible way. However, a topic people don't want to see AI take over is the art and creative field.

Art tells a story. It's human. Art isn't supposed to be perfect, and AI's whole premise is optimization - trying to take something and make it perfect. However, we like certain films, music, and art not because they are perfect with no flaws, but because they symbolize something. The amount of effort put into something is unique.

If AI wrote my books, no one would read them, because they wouldn't be my personal stories to tell. They would be made up, people would figure it out, and it wouldn't be the same.

In my commencement speech, Northeastern's president said that creativity is the one thing everyone needs to succeed in this era, because if you think about it, you can build it with AI. And I agree that creativity as a whole isn't being replaced, but it might be replacing artists, musicians, and writing.

Right now, it might be detectable that AI is making certain content. However, it's only getting better and better. So what if it gets to a point where human art is no longer valued?

I've listened to AI Travis Scott songs, and they lowkey slap. I've used Genspark AI to make my book covers, and they are amazing. What happens if AI just makes and publishes books? The value of human-made art is gone.

(The middle is my startup logo, and the other two are book covers. All made by Genspark AI.)

But with supply and demand, since every single person is using AI, human-curated work is only getting more and more valuable. Professions with human-adjacent criteria will succeed because that was the norm, but now it isn't.

I'm saying that AI might be taking an aspect of creativity - and I'm part of the problem.

AI is just more accessible and cheaper than hiring artists and editors for my books, so why would I waste time, effort, and money when AI is faster and more reliable?

I think AI will take over every field, but that just means the value of human work will only be more appreciated - maybe not now, but eventually.

Personality Tests

I don't want to make a separate blog post, but I also want to dive into another topic: personality tests.

What does ENTJ mean - personality type breakdown

I remember first taking the Myers-Briggs personality test in high school and getting a completely different result. It's an interesting topic because (a) have I changed, or (b) was I just in a different state of mind?

To get accurate test results, you have to be brutally honest and genuinely take your time with it, and not choose an answer based on limited actions. If you are a planning type of person, and last week you were spontaneous, and then you choose an answer saying that you are more spontaneous, your personality type isn't accurate.

For me personally, I have changed, but I am still the same person. My theory is that as we grow older, at our core we are the same person. Five years from now I will like Drake, Rocket League, and Modelos. My core values of loyalty and building will stay the same, my humor will stay the same.

What changes? I think it's my actions, routine, and some goals. My goals in CS, physique, and overall life will not change. But week to week, I might want to increase 5 lbs on bench press or try to finish a book in two weeks. My overarching goals stayed the same, even when I was in high school. If I told my high school self about my current goals, I don't think he would be too surprised.

That's why I'm skeptical about personality tests. The fact that they can change as you grow older doesn't mean you've changed. You might be stressed, have a really good day, or feel tired. All of these reasons affect what you put as answers and don't symbolize "personality" growth.

My ending thoughts are: can you even change your core values? If you were someone who has always been extroverted, can you magically become introverted? Can you go from going to bars on Friday nights to staying indoors and watching Netflix? It becomes harder because it's a pattern. When you've done it for so long, your body and mind need time to adjust. So you quite literally need to force yourself to be and act different, and you will feel uncomfortable.
